Part 1
The things I learned from writing about the German word Schadenfreude were thought-provoking and quite interesting. The thing that caught my attention the most was that people who are most likely to be prone to Schadenfreude are people who seek a world balance between their life and those who seem to have a better life, in that they are not alone in their struggles. Researching about the word also confirmed to me that Schadenfreude is strongly connected to envy, jealousy, and other such feelings.
For my new topic (FOMO) that I picked to write my 3rd paper about, I based several questions:
1- What causes FOMO?
2- What kind of situations where people feel FOMO the most?
3- Is it a modern feeling or has it always existed?
4- How to cope with it?
To answer those questions as accurately as possible, I will need to find people who struggled with FOMO and scholarly papers that research the topic deeply. I will use blogs and YouTube to find personal experiences, and will use ProQuest to get research papers.
People who might be invested in my topic could either be regular people who are as curious as I am, or researchers who need to create hypothesis or theories on the topic.
Part 2
My claim: I believe FOMO is, most of the time, an illogical feeling created by fake exposure to the best circumstances and luckiest people in the world. That results in thinking that most people (or a big portion of them) have these kind of lives, which is wrong.
My stakeholders would be both people with curiosity and researchers.
The argument could be, “The essence of FOMO is comparison and it’s mostly formed when exposed to social media on a constant basis.” I think this argument summarizes my claim and works well as a thesis.

Part 3
My source is: “Fear of missing out: Testing relationships with negative affectivity, online social engagement, and problematic smartphone use.”
Summary: discovering and exploring the factors that cause FOMO and its connection with mental health and technology use.
This worthy of this source to my paper is high because it talks about technology and social media use, something that I mentioned in my argument.
The authors start their paper with an intro to the concept of FOMO, and they show how studies have discovered a strong relation between it and social media and its negative effects. Additionally, they create a theory and start a study to further explore the relationship between FOMO social media with its effects. And finally, the authors lay out the results and conclude the paper.
Ideas in the paper like FOMO’s relationship with social media and phone use will directly help me build a strong support for my paper.
The role of this source in my argument is the problematic social media use and its negative effects.
